UK Private Pilots License (PPL)

The Training 

  • Minimum of 45 hours training.
  • 25 hours of dual flight instruction.
  • 10 hours of supervised solo flight time, including at least 5 hours of solo cross-country flight time.
  • At least 1 cross country flight of at least 270 km (150 NM) that includes full stop landings at 2 aerodromes different from the departure aerodrome.
  • Must hold a class 2 medical.
  • 9 written exams in house.
  • Practical radio examination.
  • Minimum age of 17 year olds.

The Privileges 

  • The holder can fly a light aircraft (<5700kg) within the the United Kingdom and European Union member states.
  • Allows the holder to fly Visual Flight Rules (VFR) by day.
  • Carry passengers without payment.
  • Additional rating such as night and IR(R) can be added.

UK Light Aircraft Pilots Licence (LAPL)

The Training

  • Minimum of 30 hours flying training.
  • 6 hours of supervised solo flight time, including at least 3 hours of solo cross-country flight time.
  • At least 1 cross country flight of at least 148 km (80 NM) that includes full stop landings at 1 aerodrome different from the departure aerodrome.
  • Must hold a LAPL Medical Certificate.
  • 9 written exams in house.
  • Practical radio examination.
  • Minimum age of 17 year olds.

The Privileges 

  • The holder can fly a light aircraft (<2000kg), up to 3 passengers, within the the United Kingdom and European Union member states.
  • Allows the holder to fly VFR (Visual Flight Rules) by day and by night if a night rating is held.
  • The holder can fly within the EU member states.
  • Fly passengers after 10 hours after licence issue.

Instrument Rating Restricted IR(R)

This course extends the privileges of the PPL to those of an IR(R) holder by revising the basic instrument flying techniques learned during the PPL training and introducing more advanced instrument flying skills. It allows pilots to use their instruments to make an approach in weather that has deteriorated below their Visual Flight Rules (VFR) Minima. 

Pre-Requirements 

An applicant for an IR(R) Rating must have:

  • 25 hours total experience as pilot of aeroplanes following PPL(A) issue and which may include the training for the UK IR(R) rating.
  • 10 hours as PIC of aeroplanes to include 5 hours as pilot in command of aeroplanes on cross country flights.
  • UK issued Flight Radiotelephony Operators Licence (FRTOL)

The Training

  • Minimum 15 hours in instrument flying as ‘Pilot under Training’.
  • Pass a written theoretical knowledge examination.

Privileges 

Entitles the holder of the licence to act as pilot in command/co-pilot of an aeroplane flying under instrument flight rules (IFR) except in:

  • When the aeroplane is taking off or landing at any place when the flight visibility below cloud is less than 1,500 metres.
  • Class A airspace.

Night Rating

This is a relatively short 5 hour course. A night rating allows a pilot to fly at night exercising visual flight rules (VFR). The night rating is non-expiring (it has lifetime validity).

The Training 

  • Local flying.
  • 5 solo full stop landings and take offs.
  • At least 1 hour of cross-country navigation with at least one dual cross-country flight of at least 50 km (27 NM).

Hour Building

Our hour building program is designed for those who wish to accelerate his/her flying experience. This program is designed for you to improve your skills and gain valuable experience for your flying career.

  • No time restrictions on the aircraft.
  • All landing/ touch and go fees included in Haverfordwest.
  • Instructors available for additional £20 per hour.
  • All fuel included (including that bought away from base which will be reimbursed on production of a receipt).

* If you have not flown with us/ not flown our aircraft type then you will be required to undergo a dual check with an instructor (at dual hire rate).

Safety Pilot Training

This course for those who regularly fly as passengers in a light aircraft. The safety pilot course is designed to give you the opportunity to learn how to fly the aircraft safely and in extreme cases where the pilot becomes ill, to be able to the controls of the aircraft, navigate and land safely.

  • This course consists of 10 hours flying; there are no ground exams or flight test to complete.
